A Saskatchewan Green Party government would require oil and gas related equipment and operations to undergo treatment at a Mobile Sterilization Unit when entering the province.
This idea is now part of the party’s Surface Rights platform for the coming provincial election. This regulation is an effective way to stop the spread of weeds onto farmland. Farmers are telling us that the spread of weeds is one of the unwelcome side effects of oil activity on their land, even if drilling is done on their property without their permission. But requiring sterilization will help prevent weed pollution on their land.
The equipment and operations would also be required to be treated when entering and exiting farmland.
