Visiting and local dance companies to perform double-bill for all ages
November 8, 2014
Audiences can expect a whimsical and vibrant performance when two contemporary companies – Ottawa’s Tara Luz Danse and Mocean Dance of Halifax – join together for an all-ages double-bill at Shenkman Arts Centre’s Richcraft Theatre on Saturday, November 8. The two companies will each perform 30-minute shows, separated by an intermission. After the show the audience will be invited to meet the artists, ask questions and manipulate props from both works.
Children, youth and the whole family will enjoy the performances that will transport them into a playful universe. Adults and children will find themselves intrigued not only by the choreography, but also the rich imagery and short story lines created without spoken word. They will be fascinated by the movement, light and props which, in the case of Tara Luz Danse, includes objects like marbles, bubble gum and hula hoops that are lit from within.
1. Tara Luz Danse Les Billes
Les billes (marbles) is a poetic work inspired by dreams and filled with curiosity and light. This image-rich piece was evoked by a game that choreographer Anik Bouvrette plays where she asks herself: “When I close my eyes, in my imagination, what do I see…?” Les billes is her answer to this question.
2. MOCEAN DANCE CANVAS 5 x 5
Created by renowned Canadian choreographer Tedd Robinson, Canvas 5 x 5 is a masterful intertwining of the familiar with the excitingly new. Set to a traditional maritime soundscape, the piece blends striking contemporary imagery and contagious dancing interplayed with the signature elegance and beauty of Robinson’s choreography.
There will be two show times on Saturday, November 8 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Tickets are available on the Shenkman Arts Centre website or by phoning 613-580-2700.
