Sunstone Toronto

April 8, 2017 @ 8:30 am - 8:30 pm

Faith Seeking Understanding

Be a part of the FIRST Canadian Sunstone event!

Sunstone Toronto is a symposium style conference that brings together traditional, non-traditional and disaffected Latter-day Saints (and many others for whom life and faith is a wonderful but unique adventure) to participate in a free and frank exploration of gospel truths as they relate to the complexities of today’s society.

We examine and express the rich spiritual, intellectual, social, and artistic qualities of Mormon history and contemporary life and encourage humanitarian service, honest inquiry, and responsible interchange of ideas that is respectful of all people and what they hold sacred.

This year we have a full and exciting line-up of presentations and speakers, featuring our Keynote Speaker and presenter, Dr. John H. Dehlin (of Mormon Stories Podcast). John is a psychologist, podcaster and social activist with a PhD in Clinical and Counselling Psychology and will be presenting “Gifts of the Restoration: A Psychologists Perspective”.

Among our other presenters are:

John Hamer – Ex-Mormon, podcaster, historian, Community of Christ pastor and Past President of the JWHA.

Lindsay Hansen Park – Mormon blogger (Feminist Mormon Housewives) and podcaster (Year of Polygamy)

Art Smith – Minister for Community of Christ and member of the Council of Twelve Apostles

John Glaser – Minister for Community of Christ and President of Seventy

Seth Bryant – Kirtland Temple Historic Site Director

Edith Barlow – 13th wife of Canadian Polygamist Winston Blackmore

Pete Vere – Byzantine Catholic ecumenist, canon lawyer, author and chaplain

Bert Fuller – Tansitioning Mormon PhD student at the University of Toronto

Seth Anderson (historian, activist, writer and tea drinker) and Michael Ferguson (post-doctorate associate at Cornell University). Seth and Michael were the first same-sex couple legally married by the state of Utah, and are outspoken advocates for LGBTQ+ communities and causes.

Russ Pirie – Revitalization Minister with Community of Christ and former relationships counsellor.

Bethany and David Llyod – life-long priesthood members in Community of Christ, and each with 25 years of ministry experience. Together they will share their journey and experience of serving effectively as a couple.

Leslie Olpin Peterson – 5th generation LDS and artist/author of “The Forgotten Wives of Joseph Smith”.

The mission of The Sunstone Education Foundation is to sponsor open forums of Mormon thought and experience through promoting an atmosphere that values faith, intellectual and experiential integrity.
