Strawberry Fields Kite Festival
May 25 @ 12:00 pm - May 26 @ 5:00 pmFree
There is the amazing flying field, half of which is used by the professional flyers with their huge and huger kites. The other half is used by the kids and other interested flyers. As well there will be areas devoted to kids, music, food and vendors. The event is a family event, but it is also an Eco event. For our vendor area, we are approaching craftspeople who make soap, solid shampoo, play goop, native bee hotels, kid’s clothing, toys and puppets. We will have demos that highlight green concerns: Pollinator Pathways, beekeeping, how to’s such as making your own kite, musical instrument or large bubble wand from biodegradable or found materials. In the kids interactive area, we will have water play areas, chalk “painting”, face painting, henna, bubble blowing. Kids can take the kite they make down to the flying field and get some flying in. Our music area will feature an hour of local talent, and an open stage with kid karaoke just for fun. Food Trucks will be onsite. We are also approaching local farmers, bakers and other food people to keep everyone fed and hydrated.
Oh- and the kite flyers! They bring kites and wind toys from all over -large ones and very large one, wind toys and banners. There will be demos by the flyers, prizes for the best kites in various categories, and on-the-field interviews as they fly their kites. Also Wheatley’s Kite Museum will be coming with their display of antique and modern kites.
