The Steeves 250 event is a celebration of the 250th anniversary of the arrival of the Steeves to New Brunswick, where they settled in Hillsborough in 1766. The Steeves immigrants were comprised of Heinrich Stieff, Regina Stahlecker, and their seven sons: Jacob, John, Christian, Frederick, Henry, Lewis, and Matthias. They originated from Munsingen, Germany, having immigrated to Pennsylvania, USA in 1749. They left there in 1766 under the organization of Benjamin Franklin and others, and arrived in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada on June 3rd, 1766.
The Steeves Family’s descendants alone are now estimated to number more than 250,000 people worldwide. The Steeves 250 celebration will bring together thousands of Steeves from all over the globe who will partake in a family reunion like never before. This week-long event will showcase the Steeves history, introduce new family members, educate our young Steeves about their heritage, and put the history of NB on display for the entire community to learn.
