MOA’s Shakeup: Preserving What We Value
December 2, 2018 @ 10:00 am - September 1, 2019 @ 5:00 pm
Museum of Anthropology (MOA) at UBC announces its new exhibition, Shake Up: Preserving What We Value from December 2, 2018 to Fall 2019.
The exhibition explores the convergence of earthquake science and technology with the rich Indigenous knowledge and oral history of the living cultures represented in MOA’s Northwest Coast collection. Through multimedia installations, contemporary First Nations art and cultural objects, Shake Up highlights the connection between cultural knowledge and natural seismic events. Bringing together the perspectives of culture, art and science, this exhibition reflects on what we value and how we preserve it. Shake Up is presented in conjunction with upcoming seismic upgrades to MOA’s Great Hall, which will augment the building’s structural integrity and help preserve the invaluable cultural significance and living heritage of the world-renowned collection. The opening celebrations are on December 2, 11:30am to 4pm and admission is by donation.
