9th Annual Deep Freeze Byzantine Winter Festival

Deep Freeze Byzantine Winter Festival returns for a 9th year, celebrating in a winter wonder fairyland! Fairies and Elves and Ogres… OH MY! inhabit the urban landscape and spaces around 118th Avenue (Alberta Avenue) between 90 and 94 Street, January 9 & 10, 2016.
Deep Freeze features three juried art galleries as well as an artisan market featuring fine local arts & crafts. Applications for the Artisan Market & Galleries are currently being accepted until November 30th.
Deep Freeze is accepting team registrations for its annual Cool Runnins’ Deep Freezer Race and 3×3 Street Hockey Tournament. Registration closes on January 4 at noon.
Cool Runnin’ Deep Freezer Race | January 9 & 10 | noon – 2pm
Teams of five race deep freezers on skis across the finish line.
Teams must have exactly five members: three riders inside the freezer and two pushers. The three riders must wear their own helmets during the race. Helmets may be decorated to suit team apparel. However, No helmet, No racing.
Teams are encouraged to dress up in costumes of their choosing; prizes are awarded for the fastest team and the team with the most spirit!
3×3 Street Hockey Tournament | January 9 & 10
Teams of three to five players can sign up for this friendly weekend tournament, which guarantees five games and includes great prizes.
The Deep Freeze Byzantine Winter Festival is a free family event uniting Ukrainian, Franco-Albertan, Franco-African, First Nations, Chinese and Acadian/East Coast communities to taste, share and experience the Olde New Year. Deep Freeze 2016: Fairies and Elves and Ogres… OH MY! features a variety of free activities, including live music, cuisine, dance, wagon rides, ice skating, storytelling, fireworks, an artisan market and gallery, and much more.
