Gorula - Dylan LanganThe past month has been a busy time in Canadian music news. It kicked off with the song ‘Pluto’ by Cambridge, Ontario’s electronic dance musician GORULA (aka Dylan Langan), being named one of the Top Indie Electronic Music Tracks of 2013 by the Rex Manning Day RMD Blog.

Dylan Langan is an interesting character. On his website he states, “I’m not trying to make a living, I’m trying to make sounds, sounds that get people on their feet and moving, sounds that bring people together.”

“The only reason I put a price on anything is so the critics take me seriously, and so I can have a pizza maybe once a year. I strive to create social unity and change. And by change I mean a difference, not what goes into my pocket.”

Quebec City’s NATURAL BORN TELLERS released a new single – “Unreal” which is distributed by DEP and Universal Music in Canada. The song was produced by Jean Perruno and remixed by Charles-Emile Beaudin at the prestigious Piccolo Recording Studio in Montreal. The band is currently preparing for a promotional tour.

West End Leading Man Alex Gaumond

Alex Gaumond Here I AmCanada Day saw West End leading man Alex Gaumond sing the Canadian national anthem at the opening of celebrations in London’s Trafalgar Square. “It’s with huge pride and excitement that I accepted the invitation to sing the Canadian national anthem at this year’s Canada Day celebrations in Trafalgar Square,” said Gaumond. Gaumond is currently working on plans for his debut album. In 2012 he released his first single ‘Here I Am’, which a cover of the Bryan Adams song written and recorded for the movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. Gaumond is currently playing Alberto Beddini in Top Hat and come September 2013, he will be playing Miss Trunchbull in Matilda at the Cambridge Theatre.

UK POP – The Boy Band Frixion

Frixion ThankfulFor fans of UK POP, the boy band Frixion released their debut album in Canada. The Birmingham and Blackpool born 3-piece group is now working out of London, England. They have been busy preparing to tour across Canada late summer and early fall, so all you fans out there be sure to check in here for more information as dates become available.

“So far our time in Canada has been amazing,” says Frixion’s David Stanton. “Just to be in this beautiful country is a blessing in its self. We can’t wait to start touring here.”

Frixion’s latest single ‘Under The Influence’ is a catchy tune and you can view the video for the single which has already been viewed over 523,000 times below.

Celia Palli Pledge Campaign

Celia PalliFans of Celia Palli will want to catch her final two shows in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. The singer songwriter will be appearing every Tuesday at 6pm in July at the Cameron House in Toronto. Hot on the heels of an European tour performing with and opening for Nelly Furtado, Celia Palli has started a pledge campaign that is offering fans special perks for their financial contributions.

“Crowd-funding has become a great tool for unknown artists to achieve their musical goals and this way fans can be involved in the process every step of the way until the album comes out,” said Palli of the pledge campaign. Palli is donating 10% of all funds raised to the Canadian Cancer Society honoring her mother’s memory. Palli’s mother passed away from cancer in 2008.

Frank D’Angelo & Real Gangsters

Frank D'AngeloCanadian music entertainer Frank D’Angelo is having a year to remember. D’Angelo won the Best Canadian Film award at the Italian Contemporary Film Festival for his writing, directing and acting debut in the feature length film Real Gangsters. And the songs from D’Angelo’s latest album Just Give Me One More Moment are on the film’s soundtrack with the single ‘Dreamer‘ now making waves on the American AC charts. Fans of Frank D’Angelo will be pleased to know he is set to perform at various festivals this summer including the Taste of the Danforth in Toronto on August 10, 2013.

Real Gangsters stars Art Hindle, Nick Mancuso, Tony Rosato, Steven Bauer, John Savage, Michael Pare, Margot Kidder, Johnny Williams, Robert Mangiardi, and Sean McCann. D’Angelo who created, wrote and directed the film managed to get it from idea to completion in just six short weeks. Real Gangsters tells the story of the Lo Giacamo family; one of the most successful crime syndicates in New York City.

Justin Bieber – Bad Boy of Pop

And what kind of Canadian music recap would it be without Justin Bieber? It seems he just cannot stay out of the news. From his double hockey faux pas with the Stanley Cup and the Chicago team logo, to allegedly spitting on a deejay at an Ohio club this past weekend, he has a knack for headlines. It’s almost getting to be a weekly thing. Problem is the media were already crawling on him for his success, now they are hounding him for his failures as well. He’s at a crossroads – which way will he go?
