A record number of people numbering in the thousands came out to enjoy a fun filled weekend of water based competitions, art, culture, children activities, performing arts and live entertainment. The spectacular evening concerts, the Saturday fireworks extravaganza and Sunday’s water ski / fly-board stunt show drew record crowds.
The Kenyan born resident of Lethbridge, Alberta gained his Canadian citizenship in 2014 and has been a constant in this Canada Running Series race, winning on his debut in 2009 and repeating in 2010 and 2011. After second place to Olympian Reid Coolsaet in 2012 he won for the fourth time in 2013.
That’s not to say the Canadians occupy a second tier – not at all. A year ago Lanni Marchant finished 3rd overall with a personal best time of 31:49 while her friend and rival Natasha Wodak came in 4th, ten seconds behind. Both have beaten the 2016 Olympic qualifying standard in the 10,000m while Marchant will also run the marathon in Rio. Each has had Ottawa emblazoned on their calendars for quite some time.
